MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Friends:

We are pleased to tell you that 30 individuals have graduated as part of the Leadership Bartholomew County Class of 2010-11 and have joined the ranks of LBC alumni in our community. These new graduates now stand ready to take on leadership roles in the community.

Since classes began in September 2010, participants have attended sessions that focused on topics ranging from communicating in a diverse community to local issues in education. Several new topics were added to the LBC agenda this year, including in-depth looks at management of broad community initiatives as well as thoughts on using business solutions to address social issues.

LBC was also excited to launch a pilot mentoring program as part of this year's class. The program's goal is to not only provide participants with an opportunity to gain practical knowledge in the areas that interest them but also to better engage our alumni. We are excited about building on this year's work and continuing to develop this program in the future

None of our work could be accomplished without the many people who support LBC. From our class presenters to the local groups and organizations that physically host our classes, LBC is truly a program that is put on by the community. With the guidance of our class facilitator, Dr. Fredricka Joyner of UpStream Consulting, the individual sessions were once again wonderfully linked into an overall course. On behalf of the entire LBC Board of Directors, we extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this year's class possible.

When this directory reaches you, the LBC Board will already be fully engaged in preparing for the Class of 2011-12. The LBC Board sees these preparations as more important than ever before given the number of key leadership positions in our community that are expected to go through transitions in the coming years. If our community is to be the very best that it can be, new and emerging leaders must continue to be made aware of the vital issues facing us and given the skills to tackle those issues.

As part of our preparations, LBC is reviewing its current programming, interviewing past alumni for feedback, and participating in a community-wide review of leadership development. We have also revised  our  mission statement  to  reflect our renewed efforts to seek both class participants and community speakers  from  diverse sectors of the community  and to facilitate and empower  the participants  to stretch their community engagement  both  during and  after  their class participation. It is our hope that taking these steps will enable us to better equip LBC participants with the knowledge they need to be effective community leaders.

If you are interested in taking a leadership role in the community, consider becoming part of the LBC Class of 2011-12. Information about our next class, including applications, is available online at www.leadershipbc.org.

On behalf of the Leadership Bartholomew County Board of Directors, we again offer our thanks to all those who made the Class of 2010-11 possible, and we hope you will join us in making next year's class even better.
