MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Friends,

As a result of the impact on our community of the difficult events during the past two years, including the flood, the economic downturn, and the tragic fire, citizens of Bartholomew County have come to recognize and value the role of community leadership. Our community leaders developed and implemented resourceful, viable solutions to the myriad of problems that presented themselves. Leadership was extremely important during this period of time.

The Columbus Department of Parks & Recreation Department and the Columbus Economic Development Board are losing their executive directors in the near future. Additionally, Mayor Fred Armstrong has announced his intention not to seek a fifth term as Mayor of Columbus. From where will new leaders emerge to take their places?

Leadership Bartholomew County continues to provide to the community leaders for today and tomorrow. Its Board of Directors has structured its curriculum to provide class participants with the skills and vision to lead in today’s complex world.

We appreciate the many community leaders who filled the curriculum by generously sharing their stories, insights, and leadership skills. Class members also had the opportunity to interview clients of non-profits onsite in order to better understand the needs of those using their services. It has been an honor to work with these dedicated community leaders.

LBC’s programs support our mission—to engage the residents of Bartholomew County in dialogue, team-building, networking, education, and partnership. All sessions are facilitated by Dr. Fredricka Joyner, UpStream Consulting. Next year’s classes will focus on leadership skills, diversity, emerging community issues, education, youth initiatives, and collaboration.

If you are interested in taking a leadership role in creating a community that works for all of its citizens, consider becoming a part of the LBC Class of 2010-11. Contact this past year’s class participants and discuss their experience. Ask them to share how LBC has had an impact on their lives. Then take a step toward making a difference in your community. Complete our online application for the Class of 2010-11.

Additional opportunities to learn more about serving in leadership roles are included inside the directory. You can find a copy of the LBC Directory by logging into the Republic.com. Online application information can be found on our website, leadershipbc.org.

It is with excitement that we look forward to our 2010-2011 class. It promises to be a really great year of opportunities to learn about leadership in Bartholomew County.
